the grass is greener

You don’t have to travel far to find beauty, sometimes you only need to stand still.

In a world addicted to speed, perfection, and the promise of elsewhere, we risk losing our ability to truly see. Flooded by digital images of far away places, we overlook the quiet marvels of our own surroundings. The Grass is Greener – effect is a common mindset in which people believe that other people and places are better, often without any real evidence. This way of thinking can lead to dissatisfaction and the illusion that change will naturally bring improvement.

‘The Grass is Greener’ reflects on a cultural shift: from presence to distraction, from the near to the far. It questions our modern longing for something “better” elsewhere and reminds us of the landscapes we’ve already shaped and inherited.

Look around: our Dutch landscape is one not of extremes, but of nuance. A place that whispers, rather than shouts. This exhibition invites you to pause. It is an invitation: to see again, not with desire, but with care. Not to escape, but to belong.

“Not from a world far away,
but from the world we are already in.”
