my bubble

As I gaze at this endless dance of bubbles, I feel a deep connection to their simplicity. The soap bubbles remind me that even in the most ordinary things, beauty and wisdom can be found, if only you look long enough.

This series, my bubble, is inspired by the bubbles of soap used for the cleaning machines from the company of my family. Founded in the early 20th century in Amsterdam, my family’s factory once produced cleaning, tailoring and transport machines. Today they only supply the machines, but the ‘old-fashioned’ craftsmanship remains.

When I was young, we spend a lot of time in the company, looking through the window of the washing machines and that’s when we learned about the importance of taking care of our textiles.

The mentality of people towards clothing care is changing. Fewer garments are properly cleaned, despite its ability to extend the life of clothes. Washable, non-ironing fabrics are now more popular – these are the material I use in my work because they don’t last.

This is a glimpse into my bubble, a metaphor for a world where we take better care of our garments and our planet.
